Are black holes 3 dimensional?
I have just read the article on New Scientist about photons orbiting black holes. All received wisdom shows a black hole looking like a spiral galaxy.
But if the black hole "shroud" of the singularity is 3 dimensional what does it look like from the side?
And what would it look like from the back - if it has a "back"?
To me it is like imagining planets orbiting a star - which then poses the question why would the event horizon only be in one plane?
Does the singularity only attract in one plane in 3D space?
If anyone can shed any light on this (pun intended) I shall not go nearly as insane as planned.
