I've just been to wish my neighbours a Happy New Year, and there was a queen wasp crawling along a plank of wood in their back yard - it's a mild, wet evening.

Firstly - is this a record?

Secondly - we've two nests in our garden; can we now assume that they're dead or dormant? They're in the way of next year's work. We normally let them do their thing, as they've always been quite well-behaved if respected, and they do a lot of good.

I have just taken a batch of walnuts out of their brine and put them on a tray to mature. Can I cover them with cling-film? It's not quite impervious, as can be seen if you use it to cover chutney jars. I just want to keep them clean.

Any advice appreciated!

I've been reading a newspaper article by a food writer who travelled to Denmark. He was offered a tea made from the twigs of a tree called "hae" (with the a and e together) but does not identify it further.

Could any Danish speaker please translate for me?

I'm trying to send a short story as an attachment. It's a file in Rich Text Format, afraid I don't know what that means.

Anyway, I sent it off, then checked my Sent box, and the attachment had every punctuation point written out as words - instead of saying;

"Oh, Jim"

it said:

dbl/quot oh jim cls dbl quote

Only with a lot more /s and so forth.

Then I just tried to send it as an e-mail - I used to be able to do that on my old machine, but this one asks what my incoming and outgoing servers are called - and I just don't know! Nor does my hubby, whose computer this really is.

I'd be very grateful for some advice, please.

My hubby likes Kenco's Rich Roast instant. I want to turn to a fair-trade brand, but have not found one that he likes - he's ok with the actual ground coffees such as Cafedirect's Cloud Forest.

He agrees on principle, and we both love fairtrade chocolate cos it's yummy - it's just instant coffee that's the problem.
