I already know a little bit of the basics of Java (ie: arrays, writing files, looping) and I'm looking for a book that helps me start to get into game development a bit. I'm hoping to make a game for my final project (like Pong or if I have enough time, Tetris), and I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a book that explains game programming concepts or more intermediate programming techniques in java without going too much over some of the concepts that I already know. I don't mind if what I'm looking for can be found separately (like a book for beginning game programming and a book for intermediate programming), I just want a more thorough understanding of Java that I can apply to programming games.

I burned a cd full of photos on a Mac and I'm having trouble opening them up on my pc. Since iPhoto won't work on a pc, I've been trying to look for something that can read them. Can Picasa read .attr files and if not, can anyone recommend some software (preferably free) that can read them?

I'm stumped with this math question where I have to find the limit of sin(8x)/6x as x-> 0.

Using the squeeze theorem, I'm pretty close to a final answer, and I think that if I factor out sin(2x), I can prove that the limit is equal to 4/3 (which I know is the correct answer).

The problem is that I'm not exactly sure if it's possible to factor out an angle in a question like this. If it is, please explain how I would do something like that, as I've never done it before :(

Aside from the US, are there any other countries that offer tennis scholarships? I just wanted to know what different options are available.

I REALLY want to study Japanese in Japan.

Ideally, I'd like to go to Tokyo U or an equivalent of that, and I have a 90 overall average.

Would I need higher grades than that and if they aren't high enough, can anyone recommend a university to look at that has a good Japanese program for international students?

I just installed Apache 2.2.11 on my computer and I read that once I've finished installing it and enter "localhost" into my browser window, the page should have some text. Once I finished installing though, there's nothing appearing on the page. Did I do something wrong during the installation process?

I installed WampServer 2.0 (comes with recent versions of Apache, PHP, and MySQL) and every time I try to set up a password to protect my databases, I get blocked out. Can anyone give me a step by step of what they did in order to get a password on their databases?

I'm learning PHP and MySQL and I finished downloading Apache HTTP Server 2.2 and the most recent version of MySQL. When I went to the PHP site, I went to Window's binaries and I'm not sure which one to get.

I'm doing a paper in my history class about how the samurai have affected modern Japanese society/culture. Right now I have:

i) Philosophy/Ethics - (ie: Bushido, loyalty to superiors)

ii) Art (ie: The story of the 47 Ronin are popular in TV, plays, and works of art)

I still need a 3rd area that they influenced. Can anyone give me a few things they think are good? Thanks in advance!

I'm interested in maybe pursuing a career in computer science but also study history as a minor. I enjoy sports and it seems that I can get a lot out of going there because I'll come out knowing a 2nd language and still be in shape.

As a school, is it worth considering going there even though you're not planning on joining the army after graduating?

I noticed this and I can't recall if the movie ever explained the reasoning to keeping the hand above the eye. Anyone know why she tells people to do this?

I was looking at Fictionpress.com and I was wondering what sort of format do you use when writing an essay about a particular topic and all you're doing is writing your thoughts on that topic. Do you just ramble on or is there some sort of format that you have to use?

My final project is snake and I'm having difficulty getting my snake to recognize that it's eating itself. Every time I put any code to see if it can detect itself, my games ends right away after it eats something (I'm guessing that that the new image is loading right where the current snake head is). Is there someone out there who has made snake and has a simple trick of getting the snake to detect itself? This is my first year programming so please don't post anything that's extremely difficult.

I'm starting some research on Japan, partly for a story I want to write and partly for fun, and I'm trying to specifically look at the Edo-Meiji period. Does anyone have any suggestions for books or sites to look at concerning samurai? As I said, I'm mainly taking a look at the transition from Edo-Meiji period but earlier will be fine if it concerns the influence the samurai had on society.

I have a movie in WMA format that I would REALLY like to play on my Ipod. I've been looking for a free program that would convert it that doesn't leave a watermark or limit the time, but haven't had much luck. Does anyone know where I can get a program that's free, simple, works well, and doesn't limit my vid or leave a watermark?

My computer is relatively new and I have a firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware on it so I wasn't too worried. Now, I can't open any folders from my desktop that I make (Right-clicking and creating a new folder). Does anyone know what's up with my computer?

P.S: I downloaded a couple things so I'm not sure if something may have snuck in.
