For a kitchen floor, wood, linoleum, or tile?

If the cost is no object, I'd go with wood. I've had vinyl, linoleum, and tile kitchen floors. For my last kitchen remodel, I chose wood and I love it!

Wood is easier on your legs than tile. Although you can get cushioned vinyl, the vinyl tends to tear or dent, especially if you walk on it in high heels. Wood gives a little while you stand or walk; so if you do a lot of cooking, wood is great.

Also, wood is easy to clean (just mop with water and a little vinegar), comes in lots of different colors and widths. It also has a warmer, homier look to it than the other alternatives.

Plates and glasses dropped on a tile floor tend to shatter into a million pieces; not so with wood.

You couldn't pay me enough to change my kitchen floor!

I agree with Laura. If you can afford wood, it's great looking, and a lot more durable than I thought it would be. We had Pergo in our old house and loved it for it's low maintenance and durability. We love the hardwoods even more (they give the room a warmer look and have a better feel underfoot.)

Linoleum is easy, but can look cheap. It can also be hard to clean if it's textured.

I hate cleaning grout, so would not have a tile floor in the kitchen. Besides, I find it hard, cold, and tough on the feet and legs.

Wood or linoleum type is my choice because everytime I dropped something on my tile floor in Hawaii it was a for sure broken mess. I only lose things about half the time now.

I install everything but linoleum for a living. Tile is definitely your best choice in a kitchen. Remember, you can always have under-floor heat installed. Keeps your tootsies warm! For overall durability, definitely tile. Another product on the market is dura-ceramic. A nice product, but it does scratch easier than regular ceramic.

Tile! hands down.

Wood is terrible in a kitchen, especially if you have a family. Accident happen, and wood is not very "forgiving".

Linolium is just plain tacky and old fashioned. It also "wears out".

Tile is beautiful, rugged and will increase the value of you house at resale.
