Do Yorkie's Ears Stand Up On Their Own?
I have a Yorkie Puppy and his ears are down. He is 11 weeks old. Do I need to worry about taping them up or will they stand up on their own? I have tried to trim his ears, but he doesn't sit still very well.

Yes,they will stand up it's just now the bones in it's ears aren't strong enough!!!! I have a yorkie shes one!!! Her ears didn't stand up untill she was 14weeks old!!!!! So don't worry they usally will stand up between 14-20 weeks old so do not worry!!!!! You are the first person i saw that had a yorkie problem !!!! THANK YOU!!!! :-)

It depends on the genetics of the dog. The breed is supposed to have ears that stand, however, if the dog came from a line with downed ears, they may not stand no matter what you do. For starters, you need to make sure that you keep the hair on the ear trimmed/shaved--longer hair will weigh the ear down and cause them to droop. Also, while your dog is acquiring adult teeth, make sure she is getting enough calcium in her diet--it's fairly common for ears to droop at this time as the calcium in her body is being used elsewhere. If you do decide to train them, a quick web search will give you all the info you need on the 'how-tos'. It's fairly simple and the medical tape used for bandages does the trick without pulling any hairs when you take it off.
