Oh honey I know how you feel! Mine came in (and I grind my teeth at night) so I had a huuuge hole in my cheek area where I had actually chewed away the skin and the new tooth was making it raw! Gargle with warm sea salt water, use IB Profin or Tylenol at night may want to put a nice warm compress against your face. None of those gel and liquid pain relievers for tooth aches helped me, it actually made it worse, I think there might be sugar or something in them because it made my tooth ache horribly. I hope this helps some. Good luck! Best wishes
Ok. You know the obvious answers, but there are still several questions to be asked. Since I don't have an x-ray of the area in question, I'll have to go on gut instincts here.
1) Your tooth maybe comming in. this results in local discomfort as well as a bit of a headache. Oragel only lasts for a little while and even then it's a topocal, so doesn't do anything for the underlying bone. Aleve seems to be the best option... it is a pain realiever and an anti-inflamitant. While it won't completely relieve the pain, it will help. Call your dentist for a dosage amount if the 2 the packaging doen't do anything for you.
2) If the tooth isn't breaking the surface and you are more than 19 years old, it could be impacted and thus is putting pressure on the teeth in front of it. There really isn't much that can be done except take Aleve and call your Dentist.
3) If the tooth has already come in and it hurts while eating or drinking sweet things, there is a cavity going on and the only thin that CAn be done is going to see the dentist.
4) If the tooth has already come in, it hurst while drinking or eating anything cold (sharp stabbing pain that makes you want to rip your face off) then you more than likely have an infected tooth. That can only be taken care of by a round of antibiotics and root canal therapy or extraction. Your dentist SHOULD have you on antibotics for a week before any treatment is done regardless of which way you decide to go.
All this to say... it COULD be anything... there are few things that can be done witout your dentist being completely involved, and Aleve is the best pain reliever I have found.
first: avoid the Tylenol, try with the Ibuprofen. second: you could rinse your mouth with diluted hydrogen peroxide (1/3 of peroxide and 2/3 of water) to kill the offending bacteria. try to use a syringe to rinse between the gum and the wisdom tooth, cause this place is where many bacteria colonize and produce inflammation and pain.
