Vegetarian?

I am now one, just started about a week ago, which isnt too hard considering I only ever ate chicken anyways. I was wondering what kind of vitamins would be good for me. b-12, b-6 .. but what kinds of things should I do/take to keep me healthy, high protein, etc. since Im no longer eating meat?

First off I wanna say that anyone who believes its pointless to be a vegetarian because youre still killing a living creature (plants) is purely ignorant. The fact remains that, even giving plants the benefit of the doubt saying they feel pain, animals feel far more pain when slaughtered. Not to mention that many places use such cruel methods of slaughter that most of you couldnt even stomach it. Check out a little organization called PETA if you dont believe me. ;) So please do some more research on that before you put your half a cent in.

Also, to say she should have done more research before making the decision also shows a deal of ignorance. I myself stopped eating meat one day after reading up on animal cruelty and I did no research on vegetarianism. I just stopped and picked it up from there. If someone feels compelled to make such a decision one day then more power to them. The research can be done from there. It doesnt take that long to get an idea of what you need in your diet. The point of this site is for people to come ask such questions. So before you slam someone for making a decision with lack of research, think about the reason this very site youre posting on exists.

Now to answer the question, apologies for the lengthiness of this, green leafy veggies, spinach being a good one, also some soy products. I was always a fan of boca and morningstar farm products. For starts, you cant tell much of a difference between them and the real thing. I also like one a day vitamins. The one person mentioned zinc and that too is needed. There is a one a day vitamin with zinc which is what i took. Just keep your head up for the most part and remember why youre doing this. Thats the real ticket.

Take a good multivitamin-- one intended for teens if you are one. You'll want to make sure you find a good vegetarian brand, as some vitamins are made with animal products.

If you've only been eating chicken for quite some time, then you haven't been getting much nutrition from that, anyway, so if you're healthy now, I wouldn't worry much about it. Most Americans get too much protein, anyway, so as long as you're eating some beans or nuts or other foods that contain protein, you'll probably be fine.

As far as other vitamins, it completely depends. Vegans do have some issues with b vitamins, so if you're going that route you'll want to look for a good b complex vitamin. If you're planning to still eat dairy and/or eggs regularly, this shouldn't be a problem.

Eat plenty of whole grains and plenty of leafy green vegetables, as well as a wide assortment of fruits and vegetables in many colors, and you should do just fine.

Also, someone suggested Morningstar or other soy products. Please, please, please if you're going to go that route, find soy products that are NOT made from GMO soybeans (if it's certified organic, it should not be made from GMO). Otherwise, you're just contributing to a completely different way to mess up the Earth.

since you r a vegetarian hav a lot of milk protein also. for instance hav cheese, curds, fatless milk eveyday. also go easy on legumes meaning beans and carrots and potatoes. beans will fill your body with uric acid and under ground veggies (such as) carrots and potatoes will make you fat. you can take fish...it is high in omega 4.berries are brain foods. it will enhance your brain power. pumpkins will help you stay young and tomatoes will help you fight prostrate problems. also take lot of fruits . a good tip in taking fruits is always take what grows naturally in that perticular season. like in summer watermelon grows plenty...so take that.

In response to hyipo.net, the reason it's ok to eat vegetables is because they're not aware of being alive in the first place and probably didn't have to suffer the pain of being killed either.
