Code Scanners?
Code scanners are the way to go but choosing ones is the problem. Are there any code scanners that that you prefer over the others? If so, why did you choose the model that you use.
Thanks for your input.
Good Luck

For an amature, the cheapest is the best - within low price range (up to $150-200) they only read the code(s). If you need more - like definitions, real time data flow, OBD1/OBD2 coverage - you need something in the $500 range. XRay is one of them, and is kind of junk. The best reasonably priced option is AutoIngenuity PC/PDA interface with software but you need a computer to connect/run it, and it only covers OBD2 (1996+) vehicles. For enhanced coverage of Toyota, chrysler, ford/mazda your need to pay $99 each. Their support guy is a rude asshole but the tool works real well!

any of the cheap ones like actron will work for shadetree mechanics real good.... But I've got a few year old Snap On scan tool I use personally but is a couple of grand (beats the Ford dealer where they payed $10,000 for one of their testers a few years back)
