There are 11,880 species of ants in the world. Some species of ants are herbivores, in other words they will eat leaves and plants. These species of ants do not eat other ants of their own species and colony. Other species of ants are highly aggressive and eat just about anything they can find even a person. A species such as this would have no problem eating another member of its colony that died. In sofar as the more common ants such as carpenter ants if their colony has stored up plenty of food they probably would not be driven by desperation to do so and take the body to bury it as has been stated.

Since I used bait with borax to successfully rid my house of ants, I'm hoping that ants from neighboring colonies eat the dead so it continues to kill.

Yes they are eaten by them. Some species of ants, the queen will eat a drone for taking to long to get food.
