An English professor wrote the words, “Woman without her man is nothing” on the blackboard and directed his students to punctuate it correctly.

Well now, this is interesting. There is a spelling error here, which nullifies the whole thing. Had you said, "woman without her man is nothing" one possible punctuation could have been "Woman! Without her, man is nothing." But the corollary could not be said, as that would have to be "A woman, without her man, is nothing." and that introductory particle is missing. However, as neither of those fits within your parameters, there isn't much else to do with that sentence.
