is there a vhs cassette adapter for hi8/8mm tapes like they have for vhs-c?
i am also still looking for a low cost, quality vhs-c cassette adapter. any links to where i could buy these at a good price is appreciated.

You don't understand: it's not the size that's differemt, it's the formatting process. You can't play a vhs tape of any size in a hi8 device, and vice-versa.
VHS-c to VHS adapters usually come with the VHS-c recorders.
After-market ones are available, the cheapest I found in a quick search was about $10.

Hi8 Vhs Adapter

The VHS-C are the same size as VHS tapes that is why there is a adapter. HI 8/8mm is a smaller tape so even if they made a adapter the tape would be all over the place on the head of a VCR. They how ever make a 8mm player(like a VCR).
