Am I supporting our troops?

if I buy a $3 car magnet from the Indian at the convenience store? Is that all it takes to say I support the troops? What concrete measures do the people who sport those stickers take to actively support them, or do they just give lip service? I think that they're mostly just supporting the Indian guy at the store and the Chinese factory that churns out those stickers.

No, I don't do anything to support them, that's why I don't have a magnet on my car. I recieved a free one from the Paralyzed Veterans that I do support, but never put it on.

Dats True Dawg and as a Army Soldier that has been to Iraq 5 times and bout to go again for the 6th time this October, I completely agree with you. Bein on an Army base all the peps and especially business places have big azz signs saying "Support the Troops" but those are the businesses that charge us a hell of alot more for food and everyday living items. Even the Wal-Mart here is about 18-29% higher on their prices than the one that's 22 miles away cuz dat one's not in a military town. How's dat supporting the troops. Here around the base every 1st and 15th is pay days and even the commissary(grocery store) and PX(like wal-mart) raises the prices on military paydayz how is the goverment stores supportin us. To me u da realest dawg out dere keepin it real, peeps just dont wanna look at themselves and realize they too aint doin shyt but complain!!! Anyone that has bought that magnet or sticker that says "Support the Troops" ask yoselves "How is walkin round wit a t-shirt on or drivin wit a magnet on yo car dat says that supportin us??? have u done anything else but make that store more profit...

In a way you are supporting the troops by publicly displaying that you are thinking about them but honesly I think those stickers are a joke. The company that started those only did it to profit. They dont donate a single penny to the military. They just saw away to make money and ran after it....

I think if you really want to support the military you should look at getting a hold of a local organization that works with the military in sending care packages and so on.

As the wife of an Army officer serving in Iraq, I know that people running around with Bumper stickers would be of absolutely no interest to him. It seems bizarre that anyone would feel they should publicly purport to 'support' men & women they don't know, and it simply doesn't happen in Europe, it would be perceived as ridiculous. Troops are supported by the people who love them and by each other. My husband is inundated with mail! They all have wives or girlfriends, Mothers, children, fathers, siblings, extended family, neighbours and friends sending everything they could possibly want or need out to them. I think what these magnets or stickers identify one as, is as a war supporter and who on Earth would want to advertise that?

I'd have to say you're supporting the Indian, and Chinese factory. But as long as the import tariffs hold, and the Indian guy pays his taxes, then you're actually supporting the troops.
If you want to support the troops, see if there's a base you can volunteer at. Or better yet, just pay your taxes and don't badmouth us. That's really all we're looking for. You don't really need to support us; our job is to support and defend the civilians and the constitution (we take a vow saying this).
