I suppose it depends on what material they are made of -- do you know? The link below is to a site that sells newer ones and has all the polishing equipment things there you might need.
Don't know where you are located, but the 2nd link is to an alley in Massachusetts that still does candlepin bowling!

Good ol' fashioned rubbing alcohol works on cleaning bowling balls.
