Favorite Answer

5x - 5 = 3x -9
5x -5 -3x = 3x - 9 - 3x
2x -5 = -9
2x -5 +5 = -9 + 5
2x = -4
x/2 = -4/2
x = -2

5x-5=3x-9

5x-5=3x-9
-3x = -3x

2x-5= -9
+5 =+5

2x= -4

Simplify

2 goes into four 2x's so

x= -2

Move the 5 over to the other side making it -4. Then you move the 3x to the left side making it 2x. Then solve for x. x=-2

add or subtract the parts so you get x on one side of the equals sign and everything else on the other...

what's that come to? 5x - 3x= -9 + 5

okay now combine the parts, what's that come to? 2x = -4

to get x, divide both sides by the number before x (the 2), what's that come to? x = -2

---> 5X-5 = 3X-9
---> 5X-3X=5-9
---> 2X / 2 = -4/2

----> X= -2
