Do you have any idea of alternative artists, who paint or print in a similar style? Canter's style seems introspective and has apealing abstract attributes.

Maybe Michael Raedecker - he uses paints and stitches onto the canvas too. Some of them look quite strange, as in you don't know what's going on, or what is about to happen in the images.
Peter Doig could also be another good artist to look at (painter.)
For the similar use of pallette (as in the colour blends) maybe look at some of Turner's works.
