How do I quote a bullet-point list?

I want to quote a list that is is bullet point (from a book). I am using APA format. I understand how to reference a book, but when I actually quote the list in the text do I have to keep it in bullet-point list format, or can I simply eliminate the bullets and the line breaks to make a long sentence? The sentence would be gramatically correct if all I did was eliminate the bullets.

For example, can I do this:

ORIGINAL

He likes
- dogs
- cats
- horses

MY PAPER

"He likes dogs, cats [and] horses." (Smith, 2005, p. 24)
