I've had a gel-fuel fireplace for years -- it is kind of hard to find the fuel cans locally but there are a lot of places on-line that sell them. Google a search for "gel fuel fireplaces." Most sell a case of 24 cans for around $65 to $80 but some sites will sell smaller amounts. SunJel is supposed to be the best. One company even has different scents! In a pinch, you can use Sterno which you can buy at most grocery or hardware stores but it doesn't produce quite as nice of a flame as the ones made for the fireplaces. Enjoy your fireplace -- I love mine!

Go with electric. The Gel fuel is really nice, but the gel is very expensive, does not last that long and sometimes does not burn that well. You have cans to dispose of and if you get the gel on anything, it stains. Plus, there is an odor. I don't care what anyone says...it smells. In addition, it seems like it is burning very clean, but later you will find as much black gunk as you get from a regular fireplace on things in the room. Go with electric.

A camping supply store, Or a patio and outdoor furniture place should have them. I don't know if Home Depot would, you could call and ask. Another place might be a fishing tackle place, like Big Five or Sport mart. If none of these have it, use the larger cans of " Sterno"which is sold in the supermarkets with the picnic stuff.
