I head up the PTO activities in my daughter's classroom(fifth grade) and I am forever lacking on creative ideas for the parties and activities that take place during the school year. I'm more analytical and fact-based in my thinking, but that doesn't fly with pre-teens. How do I come up with ideas to wow them?

I find it hard to believe in this day and age, you can't find some activites on the web...Not to be mean, but if your not good at activities why are you in charge?
Find inspiration in other places. If you like the look of a popular restaurant then grab inspiration. take little pieces from those themes and flow with them for a more pre-teen look. Also find out what excites your daughter and kids her age. It may not be something you would be into but they will like it. Trust me!
play some cool music, bring in the soda that are diets and regular sodas, some bottle water, vitamin water, potato chips, video games, and maybe a daredevil or a police officer at your party so that the kids will like your party better and stay longer at your party.and maybe some disco lights too, just to make the party look more cooler.
