I've missed my period for the last 3 months and haven't gotten pregnant, why?

Ever since I had my first period at 11 years old I've been extremely irregular. I've lasted up to 6 months with out a period. I was on birth control for almost 5 consecutive years and for the past 5 months I've been off the pill. I've been having unprotected intercourse with my boyfriend and haven't gotten pregnant. We're not married but I fear that I won't be able to get pregnant when we are ready.

Since you have been using birth control for so many years it will take your body a while to readjust any where from 6mos to 1 year. Don't worry about it - I have a very irregular cycle and I have 3 kids even though I have severe scarring and the Dr told me I might not be able to. Just be patient It will happen in it's own time.

That is so crazy, you sound exactly like me. I just asked a question about the whole ovulation thing too. I'm wondering if since I don't get my cycle every month does that mean I can't get pregnant during that month. It's probably going to be really difficult to have children. You're going to have to get one of those tests that tell you when you are ovulating. Don't rule out the possibility though. I know that taking birth control screws up your cycle too. I hate it. It kind of makes me feel like less of a woman.

I know that being under weight can cause you to not have your period and I was once told that I should have some blood work done and have my thyroid checked. So it might be fixable. Just don't take Depo. It is known to throw your body into early menopause and it won't ever return back to it's normal state. That's ONE of my problems.

I am 23 years old and the exact same thing happened to me. I had normal periods my whole life then about 6 months ago I missed like 3 months of periods. I went and saw my gyn. doctor and they ran lots of blood work and did some test. Turns out I have PCOS which is poly cystic ovarian syndrome. It causes my hormones to be out of wack and therefore skip periods. After going to the doctor and them getting my hormones in line I started my period and am now 9 weeks pregnant. Good Luck!

When you get off the pill it can become difficult for you to become pregnant and your body has to fall back into its natural pattern. Give it a while. BC in my opinion is not good for your body. Its never good to mess with mother nature. When I went off the pill my cycle was really messed up. It took about 6 months to become regular.

Not having a cycle at all is not at all natural so I would ask your doctor. You may have to chart your ovulation by basal temp and mucus. Good luck!
