Why is everyone on this site giving so many of us the thumbs down on our answers, when they are really good answers??? Do you get points for giving thumbs down????

You don't get points for giving thumbs up or thumbs down. Some people just give thumbs down because they don't agree with your answer. It doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad answer, it just means people disagree with it. Just try to be as helpful and to the point as you can in your answers, and you'll do fine. Don't be a smartass like me.

It really does not mean anything. It just means someone disagrees with your answer. You do not get points for giving thumbs down. Someone said you did and so there were some people going through and giving everyone a thumbs down. If you get a lot of thumbs down then you know a lot of people really disagree with you. Just ignore the thumbs the same way you ignore some of the answers on here. Good Luck!!!

Please ignore the thumbs downs your answer gets. It doesn't mean anything except that those who gave them, think that the answer you have given, is not to their liking. It is still possible that your answer gets chosen as the best, by either the asker of the question or by voting. It is only the thumbs ups you get that increase the points you get.
Those who give thumbs down don't get any points. For if they did, then it is very easy for anybody to give thumbs down (or, for that matter, thumbs up) to all the answers to all the questions, without bothering to read the answers or to submit an answer themselves, and amass a lot of points!
Just develop a thick skin as far as thumbs down is concerned, but if you happen to get say 4 or more thumbs down, then you need to review the answer you have given and see if there is something in it that called for so many negatives! You can set for yourself a particular no. of thumbs downs (I had mentioned 4 which is my limit) to an answer of yours that should make you review your answer.

No one gets points for thumbs down. No one loses points for receiving thumbs down.
Some people probably feel if the answers above theirs have thumbs down, their answer (with few or no thumbs down) may have more chance in being chosen as the best answer.

Some people are jerks? LOL...just kidding, really. I agree with the gentleman above me...they probably just don't agree with you. Don't take it too personally.
