I dont know for sure BUT I do know if I feed my tired/cranky toddler at 7pm......she falls asleep straightaway. Digestion takes the blood away from the brain...like so many people after Thanksgiving or X-mas dinner...it makes them snoozey.
The gut has a myriad of convolutions within. Those tummy muscles need blood to pump and fibrillate the walls. The blood needs to come from somewhere...everywhere else....so why WOULDNT the rest of the body shut down for nite-nite times?

If you will not eat at night, your digestive system works overnight grinding your stomach wall and it will keep you uneasy while sleeping. Not eating at night will lead to ulcers or dizziness in the morning.

if you are hungry you wont sleep and if you eat something that disagrees with you you wont either.
