Any of the older 500 twins or smaller. Stay as far away from the 600's as you can for a couple of years. They may look pretty and all, but they're lethal in the hands of an inexperienced rider. They'll buck you off quicker than you can blink.

Def buy used. Most newbies drop their bikes, even if only at a standstill in the driveway. You don't want to be scratching a brand new paint job with stupid mistakes like that!

Lastly, make sure you take some kind of safety course and get gear (helmet, jacket and gloves a must - boots and pants can follow later but should be purchased straight away).

Sweat is a lot easier to replace than blood, so even if your a**e is hanging out from the heat, wear you gear! Just drink more water.

Rubber-side-down! : D

Granted I'm starting quite a bit later than you are, but I would recommend something older. The 250 Ninja would be a good start also. I, myself, bought a '90 CBR600. It's not anywhere near as powerful as the newer bikes, and about 1.5 times as heavy. It still handles well and gets up fairly quick. I'm happy with it as a first bike (I've had it 3 months) and this winter I plan on selling it and getting something newer. I'd just stick with something sporty if that's what you want...don't get a Honda Shadow if you're wanting a GSX-R later...it'll be just like starting over.

the dimensions and variety of journey is truly as a lot because the you the rider. I particularly were searching and sitting on truly some motorcycles the rebellion and evening hawks are to small for me my foot would not get lower than the shifter and that i fell like my knees are in my face. I particularly have a Suzuki gs 550 that became given to me "would not run" I sit down on that and prefer it truly is in good structure I actually have a seventy 8 gold wing "only were given operating" it truly is a 1000 I in good structure on that giant took it for a journey after I were given it operating could deal with it no issue. My friends first journey became a Shadow 1100 Ace he's on the small aspect besides the undeniable fact that the motorbike suits him properly and that i have taken that out it became the first motorbike I took out on the line and highway. So again the point is way less ability is reliable if the journey suits you. sit down on various motorbike talk with the broking if there a reliable broking they can help you you with what suits you the way you and the position you undeniable to journey also make a distinction in what type of journey you purchase.

The Ninja 250 Sport if you weigh less than 190 will do fine.

If you check out The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles in the back there will be all sorts of bikes that the author lists as best first bikes. There's a lot of good advice inside. It was given to me for Christmas when I decided I was going to learn how to ride and it helped me a lot with a wide range of topics from maintenance to buying.
