There was this episode of M.A.S.H. and I thought even tho it was a tv show they did have much of the history correct, so an Ethiopian soldier went into the ER and made it thru surgery but why was his country fighting to begin with?

with exception of the famine that struck the region in the 80's Ethiopia has been a fairly advanced and progressive country. they have a very strong military and economy and contribute forces to the UN.
just recently Ethiopia worked with the Somali government to over throw Islamic militias that had captured important Somali cities.
Ethiopia even has a fairly modern air force consisting primarily of Soviet made migs.
