If a person travels from the US to UK...can any electrical appliances be taken along and used?

For example, a hair dryer, or anything sent to a friend who lives there? We are being told it's different there than here in the states, and would need an adapter of sorts. Want to send a friend a candle jar warmer plate, and not sure if she'd be able to use it.

I live in the UK, its not cold here before u all say anything!!

We have three pin plugs which look like this :

and fit into a socket like this:

so you may need an adapter like this:

Hope that helps, and yes you will need adapter as we have different plugs etc to europe to we are special :D as well as GBP!!
