I need help on a vacation choice for my wife and me -- South Africa or Tierra del Fuego/Patagonia/Antartica.?

We would spend 2-3 weeks at the locations. South Africa would involve visits to Capetown, Victoria Falls, game reserves, and Johannesburg. Or if we choose South America, we would spend it in Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia and then a week or so on a cruise to Antartica and tracking Shackleton's journey.

My wife and I are experience travelers and young/active. We tend to stay in more upscale facilities but have no problem getting off the beaten track to see something spectacular. (Last year we spent two weeks on a riverboat in Cambodia seeing the rural countryside. It is highly recommended!)

People with experience in both locations would be particularly appreciated.

Thanks!

I live in Cape Town so am qualified to recommend it!

By the way, Victoria Falls is in Zimbabwe, not South Africa, so that would involve crossing a border to visit. (I grew up in Zimbabwe and the Vic Falls is stupendous.)
If you're prepared to go upmarket and you want an outstanding experience, travel from Johannesburg/Pretoria to the Victoria Falls using Rovos Rail and stay in the Victoria Falls Hotel. This is something you will never forget! I can't recommend it highly enough!

For an insider's viewpoint on Cape Town, go here:

Don't be deterred by the name, most of the info is applicable to all Cape visitors.

To research Rovos Rail, go here:

Good luck with your plans! I hope you choose Southern Africa!
