My laptop stopped detecting it's built in CD drive spontaneously. How do I fix it?

It's a recent purchase. I haven't even gotten my mail in rebate back yet but I live 300 mile away from where I bought it. It was a two day sale. I was very careful with it and the drive is operational all the drivers are up to date It worked until it stopped detecting my drive. I had used it the day before. It opens normally before Windows boots up and if it was open when Windows starts it will open and close normally except for when a program tries to eject a disc. If it is closed when Windows opens it will not open normally until it is restarted. It does not display a cd drive when I open My Computer I have tried System Restore multiple times. It seemed to work the first time only and only until I shut down my laptop. I have tried detecting new hardware, none is detected. I am at my wits end. Please help.

If the new computer came with media software install it.

If that doesn't work, try taking the drive out and checking the cable connections, (if the drive is removable.)

If that still doesn't work seek advice from a computer IT professional, (Best Buy's Geek Squad, Circut City's Fire Dog.)

This isn't anything major so dont worry, there's probably a simple answer. You may have just over shot it.
