My laptop stopped detecting it's built in CD drive spontaneously. How do I fix it?

It's a recent purchase. I haven't even gotten my mail in rebate back yet but I live 300 miles away from where I bought it. It was a two day sale. I was very careful with it and the drive is operational, all the drivers are up to date. It worked until it stopped detecting my drive. I had used it the day before. It opens normally before Windows boots up, and if it was open when Windows starts it will open and close normally, except for when a program tries to eject a disc. If it is closed when Windows opens it will not open normally until it is restarted. It does not display a cd drive when I open My Computer I have tried System Restore multiple times. It seemed to work the first time only, and only until I shut down my laptop. I have tried detecting new hardware, none is detected. The system did not come with a software disc. Nor would a disc of any kind install anything if my drive is not detected. The drive is not removable. This is my only disc drive on my laptop. Please Help!!

There may be a number of reasons why it wont detect the drive. A simple 1 if it was working the day before and stoped it a lose cable, but being a laptop it may be harder for you to check as the parts are very small. It could also be a driver problem to check you need to right click on my computer icon, chose properties, hardware, divice manager. If it is a problem with the drive you will c a ? mark on it, right click on it and chose update driver.

let me know how u get on :)

would nicely be a driver challenge yet also a hardware challenge. If for instance the powercable or records-cable to the dvd-power ought to have come free for some reason it would not be recognized anymore. frequently taking away a dvd-power from a pc isn't very difficult so possibly attempt eliminating it and reconnecting the cables. (take battery out formerly attempting to get rid of dvd-power). If that would not help i ought to attempt to rule out a software challenge. attempt restoring the device to an before state, via for instance using a fix partition, or restorepoint, or perhaps via reinstalling domicile windows. If that still would not help i imagine i ought to purchase a clean dvd-power.
