Newly pregnant, father over 45, health concerns?

I JUST found out last week that I am pregnant. It is so early in the pregnancy, that my actual missed period was just yesturday. This isn't my first child, but my first with my partner, who is over 45 (I am younger). I wondered if there were any health concerns with his age and the baby's health. Any advice that coul dbe given would be great.

I agree with the first answer. I'm not a professional, but I'm a mother of four children. It's usually more on the mother's side as far as the whole age concern. If a pregnant mother is over the age of 35, it then becomes what they call a high risk pregnancy. Then what the doctor does is another test where they insert a needle to collect the fluid, that the baby is in. The reason for this is they check to rule out down syndrome. If you are still concerned, discuss your concerns with your doctor, a good thing to do is write it all down before you go to the appointment, so you don't forget anything. To ease your mind they may still do that test. But try not to be stressed, that's not good for the baby. Take it easy, rest, you are about to do the hardest job ever created, becoming a mother. God bless, and congrats!I wish all the luck in the world =) Just by you asking this question..... shows that you have good mother in-stinks. You'll do just fine.

I have read that men over 40 carry a higher risk of having a child with a chromosomal defect, but I don't believe the risks are as high as a woman. If you are concerned you can discuss additional testing with your OB, such as CVS or amniocentesis. If your partner is in good shape, I wouldn't worry too much about it. My father had 4 children past age 45 with no problems and there are countless older celebrity males that get married to younger women and father healthy babies. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Congratulations and best wishes.

Okay. First: Stop and take a deep breath!! You can give up taking being pregnant assessments. If this many have became up constructive, it proves that your frame is generating the pregancy hormone; HCG. Second, I'm guessing you're disturbing approximately ectopic being pregnant b/c of scar tissue from the PID. This might take a MAJOR long run contamination and plenty of scar tissue! The indicators you have got to fear approximately might be fundamental cramping (on one aspect) or heavy bleeding. If you may have both of the ones, get to the Emergency room instantly. Not all pregnancies have the identical signs. I had moderate cramping and breast tenderness. Some men and women get nauseated, a few men and women have NO signs. Your frame goes by way of plenty of alterations. Give your self a holiday.....attempt to give up disturbing. Maybe you'll be able to cross speak to a counselor at a trouble being pregnant core...they're often a giant support and they're loose. Good Luck!!

The risks increase when the mom is 35 or more and dad is older than 50. I checked into this too because my hubby is 45 turning 46 this years. =-) CONGRATS

Generally there are more risks if the mother is over 35, such as having a child w/ down syndrome, etc. If the father's older, there are risks of genetic abnormalities, but not as great as if the mother is of advanced maternal age.
