I don't want it to be for long distance calls or anything. I want a program that can make my PC capable of being used like a regular phone using my landline.
No PC to PC, Prepaid, internet long distance or similar stuff, please. Those are a dime a dozen.
Just something to use MY pc like my bedroom's phone thru my landline.

i am not sure about using your landline, but AIM talk line is pretty neat, I use it. It's $10 a month for unlimited long distance. You do need to use a gaming headset (pretty cheap if you look around) If you need it for your friends and family to call you instead of your cell phone, you can use the talk line for incoming calls only for free.

u maybe meaning Skype www.skype.com here u can also use it to make calls to other phones.
ymessenger latest version which can be downloaded free is also another fine stuff, here u need only a headphone and mic and u can talk unlimited free to u'r contacts, when they are online and has ymessenger installed.
Then if u r in London, they suport another gadget, which need u to switch on only u'r modem for making call, that is also a paid service.
