How does the NFL Draft Day work?

I'm a brit, and although I know how the mechanics of the draft work (i.e who gets what pick etc), I was wondering about the logistics of it on draft day. I can see it's hosted in NY, but what actually happens on the day? Do representatives of each franchise attend?

Yes, representatives of each franchise attend the draft. In addition to having a table on the draft room floor, they usually have a separate room located in the facility, a "war room" where coaching staff, scouts, owners and front office personnel can discuss their strategies in private.

Generally each team sends a coach and GM, sometimes a corporate exec too. They have plenty of aids and staffers to do the grunt work. Most of the top 5 are locked in and after that they just kind of guess as to who is going to either be the best pick for their team or for trade value. It turns into an auction of men, "I'll give you three rookies and a starter for and all pro..."

Each team sends delegates to report their picks to the commissioner, or commissioner's second-in-command, whoever is announcing the pick. For the first round, each team has fifteen minutes to make their selection; if the team does not make their selection within those fifteen minutes, the next team in the queue can make a selection. After the first round, the time limits gradually decrease. It takes two days, each eight to ten hours long.

All teams work out of whats called the "War Room" they have their draft boards and scouts there. Then each team has a rep(s) at the draft that actually put the picks in......
