My husbands co-worker, just got sentenced on carrying a concealed weapon, and DUI, 2th offense.
He recieved 18 months on the DUI, 1 year suspended, 6 months county jail time. He recieved 18 months of the gun charge, non suspended, to be served concurrent with the first.
His buddy seems to think he only does the 6 months, we are trying to tell him he does the max of 18 months. Whose right?

You are - concurrent sentences start the the longest sentence.
Concurrent just meant he does not have to serve both the 18 months & the 6 months You will see hime in 18 months.

Concurrent sentencing is someone when someone is sentenced for mulitple crimes and the judge orders the sentencing time to run concurrent, this means the highest time on one single crime is what will actually be served. The rest is added to the time and considered 'probation/parole' time. So your friend would be serving 18 months with 48 months probation/parole.

He does the max of 18 depending on any possibilty of good behavior credit, credit for time served, and possibility for parole based on the laws of your state.
