I am 22 yrs old diagnosed with PCOS, married for 3 yrs and trying to conceive. Just wanted to know if anyone was able to conceive despite having PCOS. I am taking Metformin(Glucophage) 500 mg 2 tablets a day. I took Clomid on my last cycle which ended in the last week of May for ovulation.
I also wanted to know if is it ok to workout if you're trying to conceive with a condition like this, as i used to be 55 kgs 2 yrs back and now i weigh 79 kgs. My BMI is 28 which is in the overweight category and this is due to my hormonal imbalance.
My doc has told me to get a laproscropy of my pelvis done, but i haven't done that due to financial difficulties.
Please let me know of your suggestions/experiences, i will be very thankful......

I was diagnosed with PCOS, so I know how you feel. I tried getting pregnant for about 2 years before going to the doctor. At that point the doctor tried femera and clomid, and neither one of them did anything. So from their ther sent me to a specialist. It wasnt the easiest thing for me to come to terms with, since I was only 25. However the specialst put me on follistem and after the second IUI it took and I got pregnant with twins. Both girls and they are 11 months old. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I wish you the best of luck!
I would still work out, it should not effect anything.
Well, I have PCOS and am still ttc after nineteen months. At the moment I'm on 1000mg of Met, but my dr. hasn't done anything else with dosage, because we're waiting on test results for possible hypothyroidism. Perhaps Clomid or an increase in Met will happen once we're able to rule out some other stuff.
As for treatment, conception with PCOS is really dependent upon the body. Most dr.s recommend you do the Met thing, then add Clomid and along the way measure your temp to verify you're ovulating. Some women have periods but don't actually ovulate, which could be the reason for no pregnancy. If these things don't work, you really have to get more serious about seeing an endo or other reproductive specialist to look at FET and IVF options.
Some reports say only 20% of PCOSers will conceive without invasive fertility treatments; others increase that number to somewhere around 40%.
YES! I have PCOS and I was taking Metformin and Clomid, but they made me sick. I got off of both of them and 4 months later I was pregnant! I am having a baby girl in August. My husband and I started trying three years ago. I also have a Thyroid Disorder...the doctor's said it would be next to impossible to get pregnant without all the medicine. I just couldn't go through taking the nasty smelling Metformin and the way it made me feel. I also know someone else who did the same thing and she is due to have a girl in July.
I take 1500 mg of Metformin XR a day before my evening pill. I do have PCOS. I was diagnosted with it in 2000 when I was 20 yrs old. We have had back to back pregnancies since 2004! So if I can get pregnant and have three boys in three years, Im sure anything is possible. Your best chances to concieve is to make sure you eat right, exersize and try to stay at a stable weight. Those will help alot when trying to concieve! GL!
I have PCOS too - and with my 1st baby - concieved without any medical help. With my 2nd - I required blood tests, internal scan as my PCOS had increased and made it harder for me to concieve. I went on MEtformin, and weekly increased the dosage till I was on 4 pills a day - on the 4th week, I found out I was pregnant and am due in August 2007. Dont know if the Metformin helped me but it did help me calm down which might of helped me concieve???
