Pregnancy and Insurance?

I am pregnant, 4`weeks. My husbands company offers insurance through Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I have not signed up for insurance under his plan yet. Going to have him check in out tomorrow.

Can I be excluded because of my new pregnancy? I looked up HIPPA and saw that for group policies pregnancy can not be considered a pre-existing condition, so they can not deny you coverage on that alone, by federal law. Is that accurate?

Thanks in advance!

Not confirmed by a doc yet, if that makes any difference! :)

It would be illegal to exclude you just because you are pregnant. Get signed up...then get your pregnancy confirmed by a doctor.

I had this worry, posted the same thing, & many people told me I wouldn't be covered. If you get the same, don't panic like I did. I'm going to be fully covered on his insurance at the start of the next month, I'll be around 23 weeks pregnant at this time. We contact them & they cannot deny me coverage & thought we were insane for even asking.

That said, if something weird does come up & they don't want to cover you, you're still very early. At 4 weeks, have you even gone to the doctor yet? If not, wait until you're at least signed up, even if you're not effective yet you should be fine. That way, it's not pre-existing if you didn't know about it. Good luck & congrats!

DONT TELL THEM YOU ARE PREGNANT! BELIEVE ME...
I was four months pregnant when my husband got a better job and had to get a different insurance. I accidentally told them that I was pregnant cause I asked about the coverage for a pregnant women. I was denied insurance right then and there. After that I called around, and Blue Cross was one of them. They also denied me, they only offered and emergency something for 400 a month! And it only works after 3 months of paying with no coverage! I am completely serious, BLUE CROSS DENIED ME, and I only called less than a week ago.

BCBS doenst consider pregnancy as a pre exsisting condition..even if his policy says that it is you can still get on it and be covered before you have to go to your first appointment which should be between 8-12 weeks

unless this is a high risk pregnancy then blue cross blue shield will have to accept you under their coverage.
From experience i know because they were trying to say alot of things in my second pregnancy were preexisting because of the problems and tests ihad to have done.
i fought it and won but if you have a reg. pregnancy you should be fine
