Teenagers! What is the big deal about staying up all night?

I'm over the hill and have no clue. I did the college bit with plenty of all-nighters, and I did army time where I was up for two days in a row. In the process, I learned that the best preparation for an exam is a clear head from a good night's sleep, and the soldier's truth that sitting beats standing, lying down beats sitting, and sleeping beats lying down.

I do not see the attraction of remaining up all night, followed by sleeping all day. I know I'm missing something. What is it? I'm not, incidentally, talking about staying up to go to a concert or such -- just staying up. Clue me in, please.

actually for those who say it is fun there really do some real so harm to themselves that they will not feel until they enter middle or late adulthood. At this age they feel invincible and there bodies do not let them know when they are doing damage to them. However the damage you do to yourself now will reflect in latter life. As i learned in my developmental psy class and others and from experience you get from you body the treatment you give it. If you treat your body bad now you pay for it latter. Teenagers actually in truth need more sleep because of the growth spurth and puberty. They need as much sleep belive it or not as a toddler. When you sleep you grow and you heal.

As for why they like it and do it it is the personal fable and the idea that they are invulnerable and no one can understand them. That there story is 100% unique and that no one else in the world can have the same experience like them. It's a phase every normal person goes through and eventualy grows out of.
