A Texas Leaguer is a soft fly ball that goes over the infielders heads and in front of the outfielders that falls for a hit.
A Baltimore Chop is a hit that goes straight down hard and then bounces so high that it looks like a pop up. By the time it is caught, the runner is on first with a single.
Does anyone know how these got their names? Sources, please - web sites (or web cites!) preferred.

The Baltimore chop comes from an old Baltimore team that practiced this kind of hit because their home field was so hard.

The Baltimore Chop I don't have a clue on. However the Texas Leaguer came from the old AAA Texas League teams back in the 50's. The parks were all quite large. As a result, that type of hit was quite common. When some of the players from the league made it to the majors and saw the same type of hit they started calling them Texas Leagurers.
