All your suggestions are great! The Nikon is really expensive. The Panesonic is hard to find. The Olympus looks great,as does the Cannons.A little more research on my part and I will be able to make a decision. Thanks to all:)

The Nikon FM is extremely surprising, in case you like a action picture digital camera, yet check out the Pentax MX and K1000 besides, or maybe the Olympus OM-a million, they have been utilized in comparable classes for years, and a few of those must be greater fee-effective, yet no much less valuable than the Nikon. One sturdy element approximately those older fashions is that the two cameras and lenses are airborne dirt and dust affordable, quite in case you love to do issues suitable and decide for top lenses. i could additionally advise which you get a 50mm f1.7 or thereabouts as your first lens. If it became sturdy sufficient for generations of experts, it won't do you any injury. I could admit, gaining wisdom of to apply autofocus, digital, multimode operation and getting the main suitable out of zoom lenses gave me some bushy moments, however the classes I discovered on my outdated Praktica interior the early 80's made me a photographer.
Depending on whether you're buying a D-SLR (with removable lens) or a compact digital, lens selection is of primary importance. Most D-SLR "kit" lenses do not have true macro capability, so you would need to buy a lens with that feature.
A Compact digital with a really good zoom range (12X or so) is a good choice - like the Canon S3is I own. It also has a great macro (and super macro) that allows you- literally-to be touching the subject.
I just purchased a Canon powershot G7 and it has been great for close ups. It would be great for point and shoot as you are a beginner but also good for down the road when you you want to dabble in some more advanced photography. That's why I bought it anyway. Hope this helps!
If u r a beginner then try to perchase a digital cam of 1.3 mega pix to maximum 2mega pix its enough for a beginner i too have a digital camera of 1.3 mega pix, and it works great.
to decide the brand(company) of camera is upto u, the look & feel etc.... which ever u like.
when ur taking photos of flowers theres no problem or difficulty coz they r still they donot move. But while taking photographs of butterflies u must be very patient! u must wait for the right moment bcoz butterflies never stay on one place.there is a special adjustment for taking photos which are not still.(i.e in running mode)
and most important tip for a beginner never try to take a photo in zoom. bcoz at the begining our hands r not steady they shake bcoz excitement and the picture becomes blurish.
