I am a level one care provider. I am paid by medicaid to care for my sister. I know parents who are being paid to care for their disabled children. Contact job and family Services for your county. Or contact Medicaid and ask them. You will have to become certified with the state. This means getting fingerprinted and background checked. You will also have to take a course in first aid, CPR, clients rights and major unusual incidences. You will have to take out your own taxes and keep your own records. I don't see why you can't be paid to take care of your husband. You need income so either you work and hire out people who are paid by the state/medicaid to help you, or you do it yourself. In our state a level one care provider makes $16.44 an hour however some people have caps which means that they will only pay X amount of hours a day. Unless your husband needs round the clock care. Start by inquiring and see if it is right for you.
Befoer she passed away my sister got a check from Disability to pay for a caregiver for 20 or 30 hours a week at $8 per hour. She was in Kansas but she said if the Dr. says you are not able to do your own housework or need help with bathing and meals you are entitled to it. My sister paid the money to her daughter. I can understand you need to be paid for the work you are doing to help the family's monthly income. Good luck!
call senior and disabled services if he gets social security and they pay an hourly wage actually. You may even be eligible under social security if you have been married more than 5 years I believe. There are many many state programs also for people with disabilities and if he has a caseworker ask them and they should point you in the right direction. I have a friend who has a son that is disabled and they send people out to help with cooking and cleaning twice a week in Oregon.
In Kansas you can get some money for helping realation. A friend of mine, her daughter, who lives with her, became disabled and the state paid my friend a caregivers salary. I don't know all the specifics about it. I also don't know if this a state to state issue. Good luck.
