Is there anyway to lose weight when you are Insulin Resistant?
I have gone from a size 8 to a size 18 in the last 2 years because I am insulin resistant and I am sick of it! I have done everything known to man to lose weight and I can't. I want my old life back. I'm depressed and I don't want to go anywhere or do anything anymore. I just keep getting fatter and fatter and there's nothing I can do about it. It's not fair! I've tried regular diet and exercise, pills, metformin, etc. and nothing works! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to lose weight?

Hate to tell you this, but it wasn't the insulin resistance. It was the food. Don't think I'm just throwing this out there, either. I've lived it. I went from 215 down to 175 in two months just by following this simple rule.... burn more calories than you take in. It isn't fair, but no one got you into this but you. It's up to you to get you out of it. I can't make you exercise, but I can tell you how good you'll feel in a few weeks if you'll just do it. If you adopt a primarily raw vegetable diet (lots of great salads), avoid dairy products, keep the fats down, stick to whole grains but limit the total carbs, forget about desserts, keep your total calories under 1500/day, and exercise at least an hour a day (I walk at least 3 miles a day), you WILL feel better in just a few weeks. Here's but one of hundreds of examples including myself: http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2007star/sep/starellen.html Please be sure to read everything on the page including the doctor's comments.
Don't get depressed over this, either... just do something about it. If you want help with depression, get this book: http://www.seekwellness.com/bookstore/books/book65.htm
Sorry for sounding harsh, but this is not a time for sugar coating the facts. You must make a decision right now... do you want to live a happy, fulfilling life, or die a slow miserable death before your time? My mother chose the latter as I watched her slowly decline into strokes, heart attacks, and finally dementia. I decided to use that as motivation to chose the former. If you want more help, email me. I have the same problem and I just lost about 8 pounds in a week. I wasn't even trying. I went on vacation and we walked everywhere.(we ate out every meal and had dessert a few times so I know my calories were up) After every meal we walked. I think that may be the key to breaking through the insulin resistance. Not just exercise or burn more calories than you take in but actually some mild exercise after every meal. I think it helps the insulin to work better. This is totally unscientific and it's only been a week but I'm going to stick with it. I have never lost weight before and something changed! I was riding my bicycle over 4 miles a day and I didn't lose a pound but walking after eating really seemed to do something.
With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/YYO5F As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.
hi i am 25 year old type 2 diabetic and i just found out like a month ago....but like you i have went from a size 8 to a size 16 in just that short of time...my doctor says its the insulin. it will make you eat, and get bigger and then he will up the dosage cause the weight will make the sugars go out of control again. and it will be just a continuing thing. i am tired of it as well but i don't' know what to do either.. the metformin just had me on the toilet all night and day... I HATE WHEN PEOPLE TELL YOU TO JUST STOP EATING OR DO THIS AND DO THAT, THAT IS SO RUDE, WE ARE REALLY GOING THROUGH THINGS.....JUST CAUSE YOU ARE A TOOTH PICK YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE MEAN TO THOSE OF US WHO ARE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO LOOSE THE WEIGHT! and for those who must know, diabetics need carbs to live, so GOOD LUCK TO YOU I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!
