Actually, it's the President pro tempore of the Senate. The President of the United States is not "in line", so the first in line is the Vice President, the Speaker of the House is second in line, and the President pro tempore of the Senate is third. 2. The Speaker of the House of Representatives (Nancy Pelosi)
3. President of the Senate pro tempore (Robert Bird)
4. Secretary of State (Connie Rice)
5. Secretary of the Treasury (Henry Paulson)
