Found a modified Saiga in .223 for sale and wanted some help in trying to determine if the price they are asking is for is OK. The modifications include the pistol grip and the repositioning of the trigger in a more traditional AK setup. It has a 16"3/4 barrel and the standard 10 round mag. What would be a resonable price to pay?
Also, from what I have read, it seems that the Saiga is better in quality than the Romanian WASR. Does anyone know how it compares the Yugo that is currently for sale in the market?
Can anyone comment on experience with the .223 v/s the 7.62 model. Is there a significant difference as far as the reliability and performance of the rifle?

Boker nailed this one, the price might be a little higher, maybe 400 dollars. The guy above him who tried to tell us saiga is a shotgun needs to go back to school. Yes saiga makes a shotgun, but they make 3 different centerfire AK style rifles as well. .223 308 762x39

Apparently the person above me has no clue. The Saiga chambered for .223 with the modifications your speaking of should run no more than $320-$375. The .223 Saiga offers better accuracy, in my opinion, than the 7.62x39 model.They also offer a 7.62x51 (.308) which is superlative in it's mid range accuracy. EVERY .308 Saiga I've fired has been able to produce 5 shot 2 inch groupings at 100 yards. That's pretty darn good for a $359 rifle.
Correct for all above except first guy. Retail right now from RAA (russian anerican armoury) is around $400.
I bought mine when EAA imported them. They are made brand new, not from parts, at the Izhmash plant in Russia, where other full auto brother and sisters are made.
The yugos are ok, and the romanian's are better with the chrome lining in the bores.
I spent some money and time adding a tapco M4 style buttstock, making a pistol grip adapter to accomodate the different trigger position, and an ergo grip from brownells.
With all the mods, $500 would be cheap, and I can't wait for high cap mags to be made or imported.
