So i bought a brand new hp laptop with windows vista and i accidentally kept using it until it ran out of battery power. i plugged it in and it turns on but the battery meter says 0% available (plugged in, not charging). I have tried using different outlets and taking out the battery but nothing worked. please help

By all means, call HP support and report the problem, they will either be nice and send you a new battery or at the very least make you prove that you bought the machine new and the proof of purchase and then send you a replacement battery. Don't do anything to void your warranty!!!

Well if you just bought it brand new from a store you can exchange the laptop where ever you got it, as long as its less than 10 days also you might want to change the battery, youre covered under HPs coverage and if they cant help you over the phone then you can also take it to an HP repair center where they can order the parts for you and do the labor of checking it out - at no charge ofcoarse.

It takes time for the battery to charge, but try charging the battery overnight. If the battery hasn't recharged fully or not at all, then return the laptop.
If the battery has charged but the meter still says zero, then the problem is either a software one, or the circuit in the laptop which checks the battery strength is faulty. In either case, just return the laptop for another new one.
