I just bought a new HP laptop. The battery doesn't charge but when it's plugged it in works.?

By all means, call HP support and report the problem, they will either be nice and send you a new battery or at the very least make you prove that you bought the machine new and the proof of purchase and then send you a replacement battery. Don't do anything to void your warranty!!!

I would take the laptop back and tell them that the battery doesn't work on it. The battery on my own Toshiba laptop leaves alot to be desired. But, fortunatley for me. I like to keep mine plugged in.
