Something is wrong with our fridge, but what?

Okay.. I live on campus and our refrigerator has a leaking brown sticky substance coming out of it from the bottom left corner.

It's not like it's a solid brown colour, in fact at first it has a ring of brown and goes transparent as it proceeds in the center.

But once the leak keeps leaking, a LOT of brown substance is overlapped and it just looks, well, unclean!!

What is it?! Can any harm come to us from this unidentified liquid?! What can we do about it? (Other than notify the front desk.. they are being really slow about it, by the way!)

Your fridge is doing it's job. Now, you do yours. Pull the fridge out and clean the drip pan underneath. Then vacuum the coils. The moisture is from inside the fridge. It condenses the fresh air let into the fridge each time the door is opened. The fresh air has moisture in it and condenses on the cold inside, forming water. It drips to the bottom of the fridge and drains into the drip pan. There, it mixes with the dust accumulated in the drip pan. The dust has limited the amount of moisture allowed into the drip pan, which finally overflows to the floor, along with dust, making the stains. So, a little maintenance on the backside of the fridge will eliminate the stains from re appearing.

Sounds like an overflowing drain pan when it defrosts to me. Usually this occurs during times of very high humidity and will usually go away in a few days, make sure the door gaskets look ok (no gaps) and keep the door closed as much as you can. I don't think it will harm you, just wipe it up till service man comes.
Hope this helps a little.

Your refrigerator is low on Freon and desires to be seen via a refrigeration guy or replaced. specifically circumstances your compressor must be going out and it rather is as inexpensive to purchase yet another new equipment than mess with that. as far because of the fact the meals being okay to consume, you should get a thermostat and notice how chilly it rather is interior the unit. i does no longer decide for to debris with something above 40 tiers yet even then if meals are going undesirable incredibly immediately, i'd bypass forward and purchase a clean equipment and be performed with it. Watch the unit and if it runs consistently it rather is low. If there is ice everywhere it is going to no longer be is yet another indication it rather is low on Freon.

you have one of two problems. The one I hope it is, is your water drain from the auto thaw unit is blocked, and leaking out of the evaporator pan, or your evaporator pan has a hole in it.

I just hope it's not a freon leak! Freon is the coolant used in fridges. it is poisonous!

I'd get an appliance repair man to come and take a look. He will tell you what it is, and how much it will cost to fix it. Of course, you can also go to a used appliance store, and buy a reconditioned fridge for about $250.oo!!
