What to see in between NJ and Louisville KY & Nasheville TN?

Me and my bf are going on a road trip, from central NJ to Louisville, KY, then Bowling Green, KY and then Nasheville, TN. What can we see that is a must on this long trip?
Something funny or different, any good outlets? diners?

Also, how is the nightlife in Louisville on a Saturday night and Nasheville on a Monday?
Where can we go?
Good place to eat?

Where is a convenient/safe/clean/in-expensive place to stay downtown Louisville & Nasheville?
We dont want to spend more than $80 a night.

Go visit the Waverly Hills Sanitorium in Kentucky. It's supposed to be haunted! It was on GhostHunters and you can even spend the night there, but it's pretty expensive to do that. I dont know if "tourist" season is over yet or not though! There isn't much in Bowling Green (i'm from KY) but Lousiville has plenty of nightlife. Nashville has a lot to do to. You'll definetly have to try some "burgoo" while you're in KY. Have fun.
