Living in Florida 6 moths a year!!?

Question

I would like to live in florida for 6 months per year and have been asking about my medicade and food stamps with the local office with no luck.My question - I am on SSI and the cold winters in Indiana make it almost impossible to function so I would like to move to florida for 6 months per year.So does anyone have any real life knowledge on the process to transfer medicade and food stamps or if I even can do this!!
My local office says I could lose my benefits all together doing this but I have been told it may be possible.

If you live in Florida for less than 6 months you keep your residency in Indiana. So you remain eligible for food stamps and SSI.

Get a checking or savings account with an ATM card that is free to use in Florida where you live. Sometimes credit unions work for this. Have your check be automatically deposited. Then you get to keep your SSI.

You can't use your food stamps in Florida, but you can let them accumulate up to six months or a year depending on the program you are in.

"Q: What if I only receive a small amount of food stamp benefits; can I let the amount increase over a few months before I use them?
A: Yes. You may let them accumulate. Food stamp benefits will be available for 365 days from issuance and TANF benefits 180 days from issuance..

If you apply for food stamps in Florida - they will notify Indiana and you will lose your SSI until they can get it started up again - and by then you will be in Indiana.

As long as you live in Indiana 6 months or more this is 100% legal.

I wish you could choose where you wanted to live and receive the same benefits. You should have the same freedoms as the healthy people. Makes no sense that you would lose any benefits because people on social security do it all the time.You do not want to lose your SSI and I totally understand what a pain that could be to get back. hope you find out you can. Maybe you should just consider getting it all transferred there and stay there all the time.

Well, you could lose your benefits all together, and the process to get medicade in Indiana is probaly much easier than here in Florida. Contact the department of health over here or My Florida. GOOD LUCK!!
