A sick child and my last day of work?

My husband and I are in the middle of a move (900 miles, actually). He's already at our new home, working and waiting for my son and I to arrive. I am leaving on Friday afternoon, and my son is staying here with his grandmother for two weeks. That is to allow my husband and I to get settled in to our new home.

Unfortunately my son has been sick for a few days, and I took him to the doctor on Sunday, and he was prescribed an antibiotic, but he's still very ill. My last day of work is supposed to be tomorrow. I plan on taking my son back to the doctor in the morning, but still working in the evening. I want to leave my job on a good note so that if i seek employment later i have a good refernce to give. I don't know what to do? If he's still very very ill tommorrow, is it okay for him to go stay with his grandma while he's sick for a few hours while i finish working? She is just as capable as watching him and taking care of him as I am..... Am I doing the right thing as a mother?

If his grandmother is comfortable taking care of him, I think you are fine to do that. Just make sure there is a phone number you can be reached at all times. Good luck. You might find he feels much better in the morning.

Depending on how sick your child is.
But me personally I would take my child to the doctor.
When you apply for a job. They rarely even care about why you left the last company. The want to know how long you were with them. So the last day will not hurt. And besides your other half is ill. Take your child to the doctor first. And work later. The only way that decision is negotiable is if you needed the money.

If he is still ill get a note from the Dr stating so and make a copy of it for your own records. You can then explain why you had to do what you did. This way they can't legally give a bad reference and if they do - you have the note.. if you only work a few hours and are that concerned I am sure it would be fine to leave him with grandma.

Wow, that is somewhat of a difficult decision, but he has a grandma that can take care of him, so as long as he is in good hands, it's ok. Of course, as a mother you might feel guilty, but it's a decision you have to make. It's only for a little while, it'll b okay!! Good luck!

I would say take care of the child there first. The child is mainly one of the reason why parents work so see about the child first, job second. Remember those people won't always care about you but you have to care about your family all the time.
