I have cable internet and I tried to hook iup from my pc to my laptop and I can't get service. It works fine on my regular pc but I cant seem to get any inernet service when it's hooked up to my laptop. (something about an IP address)

Well have you tried to run your cable from your modem to the laptop?
What you can do is get a wireless router and hook your cable internet into it, and then run a cable from your router to your computer and if your computer senses wireless signals can connect that way.
One thing you can try is running IPCONFIG/RENEW at the command prompt.

if you have your wireless with wep you need to install your security code,that way you are able to pick up the signal,call your internet provider for help,that's one of the perks with their service

u might need to install your laptops network driver
