Computer keeps turning off?

I cant do a system restore. Tried numerous dates and it simply wont let me. Cant do a full virus scan. Have to scan each item individually. This is happening more and more frequently. I have college files on here and this cant be happening.

I have a Compaq Presario w/ XP.

Serious replies only please.

The insides have been dusted and are like new clean.

First you should back up your file onto a cd so you dont loose them. Then go to programs and try doing a disk defrgment .his might help with the damaged file you have that are preventing you from doing a system restore.

Perhaps it is overheating:

You may need to clean all the vents especially the fan vents with an air duster (can of compressed air).

It is possible that your fan(s) has failed or is running slow – might need replacing.

For a laptop make sure you operate it on a solid surface so that air can freely circulate around it.

For a desktop, switch off, unplug and clean inside as well. Do this outside of the building because you will be surprised how much dust & dirt has accumulated.

firs of all before it crashes do you have a restore cd if you do you are ok 2 stop using the hard drive you need to remove alll user paswords so when windows starts you dont have to type in a pasword this will make it so you can put a diferent hard drive in and use the other as a slave when you install windows remove the original hard drive so it is not erased then you can plug it back in and use it as a slave and all your files will still be acesible on it as long as you removed all the paswords on windows log in
