Is it me or is it frustrating having an old computer? not everyone can update, i am fine with my windows 98 but now cant find anything to work on it, just bought a card reader that claimed it worked on windows 98 but when i plug it in, nothing, went to the site, downloaded the drivers and it says no support for windows 98. do I just not buy products for windows 98 anymore or is there a certian way to tell if they work before i buy them?
if you are going to just say to upgrade you can get a life

Windows versions 95 through ME were built on a core (foundation) that is much different from what Microsoft is using in Windows today (versions 2000, XP, and now Vista). Most companies that make cameras, printers, and other devices for the computer just can't or don't want to take the time to make drivers for older operating systems.
Unfortunately, there are those out there that will say anything to get you to buy their products...even lie! So there is no for sure way of knowing what hardware will or will not work. Your best bet is to find a Forum the supports and talks about the 98 Operating system. They would know what works and what doesn't with 98. How many times have you seen "Vista Compatible" only to find out it doesn't quite work very well with Vista at all...not much does right now for that matter...LOL
Here's a couple of support sites for that: http://www.tek-tips.com/threadminder.cfm?pid=615 http://community.compuserve.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?folderId=3&listMode=13&nav=messages&webtag=ws-winsupport
This is Microsoft's way of making you spend money for their products. Unfortunately, many of the new toys are not compatible with 98. You will either have to live with that and be happy as is, or move up.
