I've been taking Metformin(glucophage) for 6 years and I have recently been switched to the XR version...?

I take it for PCOS. My prescription for the regular Metformin was 500mg 3 times a day-but this new doctor who changed it prescribed me the XR version at 500mg once a day. I don't think it's right...Shouldn't it be 1500mg once a day? Does anybody know? Thanks!

No, at any given time you are receiving the same amount of medication. You needed the 1500mg because the medication was being eliminated by your body. You might still need to increase the XR, but your MD dosed the switch correctly.
